Lake Lorne Consultation

The Geelong Council has developed a draft Masterplan for Drysdale's Lake Lorne Reserve next to the the Drysdale Railway Station and the Bellarine Rail Trail. Detailed information about what is proposed was published on this blog a few weeks ago.

The draft Masterplan wants to protect and enhance the environment around the Lake Lorne Reserve, whilst providing some low key recreational opportunities.

Following consultation with a Project Working Group, the draft Lake Lorne Reserve Masterplan is currently available for comment.

The draft Masterplan recommends the following works:

  • A new 2 metre wide walking & cycling track
  • A new boardwalk in the north-west corner of the reserve
  • New 1.2 metre high conservation fencing above the upper water level of the lake to stop dog access to the waterfowl conservation area
  • New timber post and rail parking barriers along Reserve Road and a section of the Geelong-Portarlington Road to stop vehicle access onto the reserve
  • New seats and bird interpretation signage at key locations.

The closing date for written submissions is 18 March 2011. More information is available from the Geelong Council.
